INJURY UPDATE

9 Jun

There have been TONS of injuries over the past week and unfortunately they have plagued the very best this tournament has to offer.  Here’s a quick update on where we stand starting with the most recent:

Andres Iniesta – taken off in the 39th minute of Spain’s friendly yesterday with Poland due to a muscle tweak in his right thigh (you should watch what he did in that short time. Simply epic.) . Reports out of Spain this morning are that he only suffered a bruise and no tear. He should be ok to go for their first game.

Tim Cahill – sat out training again today with a neck injury. Doubtful for their opener against Germany. He has scored more goals for Australia than anyone else on the squad….uh oh.

Nani – still missing the entire tournament after trying a bicycle kick in training and injuring his collar bone. When he wasn’t being a moron during the regular season, he produced sensational highlight after highlight. (take special note at 2:33).

Didier Drogba – returned to training yesterday with his arm in a cast. Kinda reminds me of Lex Luger of WWF who’s main gimmick was the metal plate in his elbow due to a motorcycle crash. (I usually don’t reference wikipedia but he’s wearing a Manchester United hat in the picture!!!).

Oguchi Onyewu and Jody Altidore – some good news! Both have been cleared for the opener.

David James – nursing a knee injury and is questionable for Saturday’s match vs the United States. No reason to get too excited over this. All the English goalkeepers are crap even at full fitness.

Gareth Barry – will NOT play for England this weekend.

Arjen Robben – still doubtful for the Dutch opening game vs Denmark. In case you are unaware, that idiot hurt himself getting fancy in the 86th minute of a friendly the other day.

Pablo Pozo – WHO??? Yes folks. Even the refs are getting hurt!!! Mr. Pozo will be forced to sit out the Slovenia vs Algeria match this weekend he was due to officiate. When he’s not on the field, the Chilean is a succesfull auditor…of what I have no idea.

Andrea Pirlo – Gazzetta dello Sport is reporting this dinosaur will miss the group stages.

Finally, one very said story that has come out of the past week. Australia backup goalkeeper Brad Jones will miss the World Cup after his 4 year old son was diagnosed with leukemia. Our thoughts and prayers are with him.
